Newcastle University has been awarded a Wellcome-Trust 4-year PhD programme in Systems Neuroscience. Directors of the programme are Prof. Miles Whittington, Dr Marcus Kaiser (initiator of the proposal) and Prof. Tim Griffith. The aim of the programme is to train students from physics, computer science, engineering, and mathematics to perform research in experimental neuroscience and data analysis. The first year provides introductory courses in neuroscience and three lab rotations. Studentships will be advertised later this year and the first students will start in October 2008.
